Women's rights activist beheaded in Iraq

I am horrified by how women's rights activist was killed by her head being beheaded in Iraq.  What is even more disturbing me is that this article only discussed about woman's killing in 3 paragraphs and rest of paragraphs discussed about ongoing arrest issues.  I find it strange.

Saudi judge refuses to annul marriage of girl, 8

What an unbelieveable decision made by the Saudi judge!  I pray that girl's father or 47-year-old man has a second thought!

Female fighters: We won't stand for male dominance

This morning, I found this article so fantastic to ready for a few reasons.  1) I am passion about women's rights, 2) It is similar to Amazon group - band of women living and fighting together for common goal, and 3) Their endurance to keep fighting despite how misunderstood and negative perspectives being raining on them.  Whatever US, NATO, Turkey and other nations determined their group's status as terrorist group, they emphasize that they do not negotiate with terrorist groups.  Well, it doesn't' help since PKK group may not afford to lay down their arms and be wiped out if the opportunity arises.  I hope that one day, these women will be able to live as first citizens in the society.  

Saudi rape case lawyer 'reinstated'

I cannot imagine how it is like to live in Saudi Arabia and have to follow the laws that severely restricted women's freedom and decisions for themselves.  I applaud the lawyer for taking on the case knowing that majority of people may be angry or try to do something to him and his family.  He did his duty as a lawyer to represent his client.  Imagine how it was like for a white lawyer in USA in 1700's and 1800's represent black slave or freeman in the court.  If one stands up for what's right and wrong against the society without wavering, then it is courage for him/her to do so.  Frederick Douglass did that....Susan B. Anthony did that....Gandhi did that...MLK did that....Aung Sung Suu Kyi is doing that....Benazir Bhutto did that until her life ended tragically..... so anyone can do that.

"Best mom" chosen as face of currency

Interesting decision made by South Korea's central bank.  As far as I know, we have Susan B . Anthony (single, unmarried - leader of women's suffrage) on dollar coin, Sacagawea (American Native mother, one of guides on Lewis and Clark expedition) on dollar coin and Helen Keller (single, deaf-blind) on Alabama quarter.  These women are displayed as strong women which are good role models for girls and women in US.  There were few women on US coins back in late 1880's and early 1900's (i.e. Liberty) and some of them were on commemorative coins (means are legally issued coins with a design intended to commemorate or draw attention to some event or person).  There will be "The First Spouse Gold Coins" containing First Ladies of US President. 

So...it is a good start to have woman on banknote in South Korea.  I hope central bank will listen to women's rights groups and decide what's best for modern women, men and children to view woman's history and role on the banknote.

YAY!!!!!!  It is best time to be alive at this period...witnessing some changes to traditional roles reserved based on sole sex only.  Best of wishes to Yeoman Warden Cameron!  Hope to see her when I come back visiting London someday!  :)

Women demand female Pamplona bull run, with cows

Huh?  It is my desire to participate in bull-funning festival in Pamplona, Spain one day...but female Pamplona bull run with these *ahem* cows???  Think not!!!!  :) 

Dinner & Roller Derby - Lis, Anne, DJ, Paul and I got together and had fun!

Last night, Lis, Anne, DJ Paul E. and I got together for a dinner at Hard Grove in Jersey City.  We had wonderful dinner.....oh gosh!  Almost all of our drinks were great too...my apologies in advance to  Paul's drink which sent weird vibe down and up along my spine....*shudder*  Then, we headed over to Newark to watch our first ever Roller Derby that we always wanted to watch.  Almost all of us knew Roller Derby from movies and always wanted to see it in live.  We thought that we were going to see like that with our images in our head from 1970's and 1980's (eg: Kansas City Bomber (1972), Unholy Rollers (1972) and Roller Derby Mania (1986 - documentary)).  It turned out it was not same thing.  The reasons are that 1) roller skate rink is flat, not small track with both ends being raised at angle for faster and dangerous turns and 2) female skaters were not finesse at skating and jamming through.  Oh well..... It was for fundraising purpose to have friendly competition between police officers vs fire fighters.  These skaters are members of Garden State Roller Girls.  However, we did learn the rules that we never knew before.  We learned by observing and discussing what these skaters did.  There were 3 races - 20 minutes per race.  Red vs Blue - Try guess who would wear red.....Firefighters, of course.  Blues - Police officers.  First race was ummm, "warm-up" as there was not much of action.  Second race was getting a bit better, but still not type of action we were looking for.  Third race was what we have been waiting for - a bit more actions between two teams!  :)  At end, Red won by two points.  Yahoooooo!  :)  The real firefighters did come to show their supports for their colleagues, but I didn't see any real police officers.  Ummm?  :)  After Roller Derby, we went to Paul's new place in Newark.  Oh migosh....his place has bowling alley which all of us had fun bowling for 4 frames....It even has half-court basketball and game/DVD room.  His apartment was gorgeous!  Glad that we all had a good time together.  :)
