Last Saturday, I attended an event called Beltane which is known as May Day or May Pole. I got to dress up in lovely brown dress that I purchased from Renaissance Festival. I purchased the ribbon of red color with sheer in middle. I loved that ribbon....we got to tied the ribbon on top of the may pole then set the may pole up. We got to inter-weaving around the maypole. It was fun! It was my first time experiencing this sort of event. It is something that I would love to participate every year as I can! In addition, there was a special touch to this event. My friend, Libby, was ordained as an Interfaith Minister. It was lovely ceremony. I am so happy for her to begin her journey from that special day! I wish her well. :)
Prepare the May Pole, We're Celebrating!
May Day's here, May Day's here,
Sun shines bright, sun shines bright
Birds and butterflies are in flight
Blooming flowers are such a sight
Everything feels just right -
May Day's here!
(Traditional - sung to the tune Three Blind Mice)
May Day is an ancient Druidic holiday practiced mainly by the Celts in the British Isles. Activities involve dancing around a May Pole, crafting garlands and bowers of flowers, playing of bagpipes and drums to traditional Morris dances and a general celebration of the beginning of summer. Beltaine, as the Irish call it, starts at sundown on April 28 and lasts for three days. May Day is sacred to Robin Hood and Maid Marian, as Robin Hood was said to have died on that day.
